Hadith About Dua After Wudu Narrated by Umar ibn Khattab
The hadith about dua after wudu that I will explain now is narrated by Umar bin Khattab. It is important for you to understand this because it is the most popular hadith regarding dua after wudu among Muslims.
Umar bin Khattab was one of the most well-known companions of Prophet Muhammad. He was the second Caliph after Abu Bakr. During his reign, Islam spread widely and gained immense respect. His leadership was firm and authoritative.

Despite being the supreme leader of the Muslims at that time, Umar bin Khattab chose a very simple lifestyle, similar to that of Prophet Muhammad and Abu Bakr. This lifestyle was vastly different from that of non-Muslim kings at the time, who lived in great luxury. We can find this explanation in various Islamic historical texts.
As one of the companions of Prophet Muhammad who was very close to him, Umar bin Khattab narrated many hadiths. One of them is the hadith about dua after wudu below:
From Umar radliyallahu anhu, he said, "The Messenger of Allah alaihi wa sallam said, 'None of you performs wudu and perfects it, then says, 'I testify that there is no god but Allah, who has no partner, and I testify that Muhammad is His servant and His Messenger,' except that the eight doors of Heaven are opened for him, and he may enter from whichever he wishes." This hadith is narrated by Muslim and at-Tirmidhi. He (at-Tirmidhi) added, "O Allah, make me among those who repent and include me among those who are cleansed."
If we read the opinions of hadith experts, we find that the hadith about dua after wudu narrated by Umar bin Khattab is considered "Hadith Shahih." In general, a "Hadith Shahih" is one that meets the verification criteria as a valid hadith that can be used as a source of Islamic law.
Hadith About Dua After Wudu Narrated by Ibn Mas'ud
The hadith about dua after wudu that I will explain now is narrated by Ibn Mas'ud (Abdullah bin Mas'ud). It is important for you to understand this hadith properly, as it is one of the key hadiths regarding dua after wudu.
Abdullah bin Mas'ud was one of the companions of Prophet Muhammad. He was the sixth person to convert to Islam after the Prophet began spreading Islam in Mecca, making him one of the earliest converts.
If we explore some literature on Islamic history, we find that Ibn Mas'ud was regarded as one of the great companions of the Prophet. He received many honorary titles due to his deep understanding of Islamic teachings, such as being referred to as فَقِيْهٌ (faqih), meaning someone who comprehends the teachings of Islam thoroughly; مُقْرِئٌ (muqri), which refers to a person who understands the Quran and has the ability to teach it; and مُحَدِّثٌ (muhaddith), indicating someone who understands hadith and can teach and narrate it.
As someone very close to Prophet Muhammad, Ibn Mas'ud narrated many hadiths. However, not all hadiths attributed to him (I emphasize “attributed”) are classified as “Shahih.” One such hadith is as follows:
From Ibn Mas'ud radliyallahu anhu, he said, "I once heard the Messenger of Allah (Prophet Muhammad) sallallahu alaihi wa sallam say, 'If one of you has finished wudu, let him testify that there is no god but Allah, and that Muhammad is His servant and His messenger. Then let him read Salawat (invocation of blessings) upon the Messenger of Allah. If he does this, the doors of mercy will be opened for him.'"
The above hadith describes the dua after wudu and its benefits. Unfortunately, the status of this hadith is مَوْضُوْعٌ (fake). Although it is claimed to be narrated by Ibn Mas'ud, it cannot be used as a basis for understanding the dua after wudu and its benefits.
Hadith About Dua After Wudu Narrated by Uthman bin Affan
The hadith about dua after wudu that I will explain now is narrated by Uthman bin Affan. This is a hadith regarding dua after wudu, which I will elaborate on in this article.
Uthman bin Affan was one of the noble companions of Prophet Muhammad. He was a very wealthy man who donated a significant portion of his wealth for the cause of Islam.
Uthman bin Affan is the only companion of Prophet Muhammad who received the title "Owner of the Two Lights" (ذُوْ النُّوْرَيْنِ). He earned this title because he married two daughters of Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wa sallam: Ruqayyah and Umm Kulthum. Thus, he was both a companion and a son-in-law of the Prophet.
As one of the closest friends of Prophet Muhammad, Uthman bin Affan narrated many hadiths. However, unfortunately, not all hadiths attributed to him (I emphasize "attributed") are classified as "Shahih." One such hadith is as follows:
From Uthman bin Affan radliyallahu anhu, from the Messenger of Allah (Prophet Muhammad) sallallahu alaihi wa sallam, he said, "Whoever, when he finishes wudu, says, 'I testify that there is no god but Allah,' three times, will not rise until his sins are blotted out (forgiven), and he becomes like the day his mother gave birth to him (free of sin)."
Just as with the hadith attributed to Ibn Mas'ud, the hadith attributed to Uthman bin Affan is also false (مَوْضُوْعٌ). Therefore, the hadiths that explain the dua after wudu and its benefits cannot be used as a basis for understanding the dua after wudu and its benefits.
