There are many hadiths about the benefits of dua after wudu, but I won’t quote them all here. Instead, I’ll focus on one hadith.
The hadith I am referring to is as follows:
From Umar (radliyallahu anhu), he said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, ‘If any of you performs wudu and perfects it, then says, I testify that there is no god but Allah alone, who has no partner, and I testify that Muhammad is His servant and His Messenger, then the eight doors of Paradise will be opened for him, and he may enter through whichever one he wishes.’" This hadith is narrated by Muslim and at-Tirmidhi. At-Tirmidhi adds another supplication: O Allah, make me among those who repent and make me among those who purify themselves.
This is the hadith concerning the benefits of dua after wudu. It explains that if a Muslim performs wudu properly and recites the dua after wudu as mentioned in the hadith, they will receive immense benefits (which I will explain shortly).
By the way, do you know what it means to perform wudu perfectly? You need to understand this because it is one of the conditions to gain the benefits of the dua after wudu. In the hadith, it is mentioned: فَيُسْبِغُ الْوُضُوْءَ (he perfects the wudu).
In brief, perfecting wudu means thoroughly washing and wiping the parts of the body required in wudu. For example, when washing your face, ensure that all of your face is washed with the water you use. Similarly, when washing your arms (from elbows to fingertips), there should be no skin left untouched by water. This is what it means to perfect the wudu.
The parts of the body that must be washed and wiped during wudu are as follows:
- Washing the face.
- Washing both arms (from the elbows to the fingertips).
- Wiping part of the head.
- Wiping both ears.
- Washing both feet (from the ankles to the toes).
The Benefits of Dua After Wudu
Now I will explain the benefits of dua after wudu, which is the main topic of this discussion. This is very important, so I truly hope you read the explanation below carefully. If you still have any questions afterward, feel free to write them in the comments!
In summary, there are some benefits we can conclude from the hadith about dua after wudu, which I quoted earlier:
- Reciting the dua after wudu is one of the sunnahs that is highly recommended in Islam. If you say this dua after wudu, you will earn a reward because you are following one of the sunnah practices in Islam.
- One important point I want to clarify here is that reciting the dua after wudu is a sunnah. This means that while it is highly recommended for Muslims to recite it after wudu and they will be rewarded for doing so, they are not sinful if they choose not to. That's the nature of a sunnah.
- If a Muslim recites the dua after wudu as mentioned in the hadith above, Paradise will be their reward. When Muslims recite the dua after wudu as described in the hadith, the eight gates of Heaven will be opened for them, and they will be able to enter through any gate they choose.
Short Dua After Wudu You Can Say
Now, I’m going to explain the final part of this discussion: the short dua after wudu that you can say. I’m including this as a complement to what we’ve covered. It would seem incomplete if I explained the benefits of dua after wudu but didn’t provide the actual dua.
If you’ve understood the hadiths about the benefits of dua after wudu mentioned in the previous paragraphs, here is the short dua after wudu that you can recite:
"I testify that there is no god but Allah, who has no partner, and I testify that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger. O Allah, make me among those who repent and among those who are purified."
