The hadith of Prophet Muhammad about the importance of Jumu'ah is as follows:

From Abu Hurairah, he said: "Allah's Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said, 'Verily on Friday, there is a time when if a Muslim stands up to pray and asks Allah for something good, Allah will surely give it to him.'" The hadith is narrated by Muslim.

Allah's Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said, "We are the last [people], but we will be the first on the Day of Judgment. We are the first to enter Paradise. They (the people before us) were given the Book before us, and we were given it after them. The day on which they disagreed, Allah guided us to it—it is Friday."

Allah's Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said, "Among the best of your days is Friday. On that day, Adam was created. On that day, he passed away. On that day, the trumpet will be blown (the first blast), and on that day, the second blast will also occur."

From Abu Hurairah, he said: "The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said, 'The best day on which the sun rises is Friday. On that day Adam was created, on that day he entered Paradise, and on that day he was expelled from it. The Hour (Doomsday) will not occur except on a Friday.'" The hadith is narrated by Muslim.

If we understand some of the Prophet Muhammad's hadiths on Friday Mubarak, as I have quoted above, we can conclude the following virtues of Friday:

  • The nations before the ummah of Prophet Muhammad disagreed about the significance of Friday, but Allah revealed its importance and special status to us, the ummah of Prophet Muhammad.
  • Several major events occurred on Friday: the creation of Prophet Adam, his entry into Heaven, his departure from Heaven, and the Day of Judgment will also occur on Friday.
  • Friday is the best day to pray and make supplications to Allah. In other words, asking Allah for goodness on that day will surely be granted.

That is a brief explanation of the Prophet Muhammad's hadith regarding the importance of Friday Mubarak. As Muslims, it is essential that we understand this.

Short Prophet Muhammad Hadith Regarding Friday Mubarak Dua

The second important point about the short Prophet Muhammad hadith regarding fasting on Friday only that I will discuss is the Prophet Muhammad's hadith regarding the Friday Mubarak dua. It is crucial to understand this because the Friday Mubarak dua is one of the important supplications that Muslims need to be familiar with.

The Prophet Muhammad's hadith regarding Friday Mubarak dua is as follows:

From Anas radliyallahu anhu, from the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam: "Whoever, on Friday morning before the Fajr prayer, says, 'I ask forgiveness from Allah, who has no god but He, the Everliving, the Self-subsisting by whom all things subsist, and I repent to Him,' three times, Allah will forgive all of his sins, even if they are as abundant as the foam of the sea."

From this hadith, we can conclude that the dua for Friday Mubarak is:

"I ask forgiveness from Allah, who has no god but He, the Everliving, the Self-subsisting by Whom all things subsist, and I repent to Him."

If we reflect on everything I've discussed so far, you can understand some of the virtues of the dua for Friday Mubarak:

  • There is a specific hadith from the Prophet Muhammad that teaches the dua for Friday Mubarak.
  • Allah will answer supplications made on Friday, as mentioned in one of the hadiths I previously quoted.

This is a brief summary of the Prophet Muhammad's hadith regarding the Friday Mubarak dua. As Muslims, it is crucial for us to understand this.

Short Prophet Muhammad Hadith Regarding the Friday Khutbah

The third important point about the short Prophet Muhammad hadith regarding fasting on Friday only that I will now discuss is the Prophet Muhammad's hadith regarding the Friday Khutbah. This is important because the Friday Khutbah is a key aspect of the Friday prayer.

The Prophet Muhammad hadith regarding the Friday Khutbah is as follows:

From Jabir bin Samrah radliyallahu anhuma: The Prophet (Muhammad) sallallahu alayhi wa sallam would deliver the khutbah standing, then he would sit down, and then deliver another khutbah standing up. Whoever tells you that he delivered the khutbah sitting has lied." This hadith is narrated by Muslim.

If we understand the Prophet Muhammad hadith above, we can conclude the following points:

  • The hadith explains that there are two Friday khutbahs.
  • Islamic scholars differ on the legal status of the Friday khutbah. Most scholars say that the two Friday khutbahs are among the legal requirements for the Friday prayer, as the Prophet Muhammad consistently performed them. Abu Hanifah, however, holds that only the first khutbah is obligatory, while the second khutbah is recommended.
  • The hadith also explains the legal status of standing during the Friday khutbah. Most Islamic scholars believe that standing during the khutbah is mandatory. However, Abu Hanifah, some of his followers, and one narration from Ahmad suggest that standing is merely recommended.
  • The hadith also discusses the legal status of sitting between the two Friday khutbahs. The majority of Islamic scholars say that it is recommended, while Ash-Shafi'i holds that it is obligatory.

From Ibn Abbas radliyallahu anhuma: The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, "Whoever speaks on Friday while the Imam is delivering the khutbah is like a donkey carrying heavy books. Whoever tells him to 'be quiet' will also lose the reward of the Friday prayer." This hadith is narrated by Ahmad.

If we understand the Prophet Muhammad hadith above, we can conclude the following:

  • The hadith prohibits Muslims from speaking during the Friday khutbah while the Imam is delivering it.
  • Speaking while the Imam is sitting between the two khutbahs or after the last khutbah is permissible.
  • As for khutbahs other than the Friday prayer khutbah, silence is recommended but not mandatory.

This is a brief explanation of the Prophet Muhammad hadith regarding the Friday Khutbah. As Muslims, we must understand its importance.

From al-Hakam bin Mina', that Abdullah bin Umar and Abu Hurairah said to him, "We heard the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam say from his pulpit, 'Let those who neglect the Friday prayer stop doing so, or Allah will seal their hearts, and they will become among the heedless.'"

If we understand the Prophet Muhammad hadith above, we can conclude that the consequence of missing the Friday prayer is that one's heart will be sealed, and they will become heedless of Islamic teachings.

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever bathes on Friday as for ritual impurity, then goes (to the mosque) early in the first hour, it is as if he has sacrificed a camel. Whoever goes in the second hour, it is as if he has sacrificed a cow. Whoever goes in the third hour, it is as if he has sacrificed a ram with horns. Whoever goes in the fourth hour, it is as if he has sacrificed a chicken. Whoever goes in the fifth hour, it is as if he has sacrificed an egg. When the imam comes out (to deliver the khutbah), the angels are present to listen to the reminder."

If we reflect on this hadith, we can see that going early to Friday prayer holds great merit, and it is highly recommended for Muslims.

Short Hadith of the Prophet Regarding Missing Friday Prayer

The seventh important point about short Prophet Muhammad hadith regarding fasting on Friday only that I will clarify now is the hadith about missing Friday prayer. I want you to understand this so you can comprehend the consequences of neglecting Friday prayer.

The hadith is as follows:

From Abu Ja'd ad-Damari (may Allah be pleased with him), the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever leaves the Friday prayer out of negligence three times, Allah will seal his heart."

Ladies and gentlemen, the hadith above clearly explains the serious consequences of missing Friday prayer consecutively without a valid reason. Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) said, "Whoever bathes on Friday, leaves early for the mosque, walks and does not ride, comes close to the imam, listens attentively, and does not engage in vain talk, will be rewarded for every step he takes with the reward of fasting and praying qiyamullail for one year."

If we reflect on this hadith, we can conclude that walking to Friday prayer holds unique merits compared to using a vehicle. Of course, this should be understood in context. If one's home is very far from the mosque, it is still a great act to walk, if possible, to attend Friday prayer.

From Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him), he said, "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, 'Whoever sends Salawat upon me on Friday, his sins from two hundred years will be forgiven.'"

From Aus bin Aus (may Allah be pleased with him), he said, "The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, 'Indeed, Friday is one of your most virtuous days. So send much Salawat upon me on that day, for your Salawat is presented to me.' They said, 'O Messenger of Allah, how can our Salawat be presented to you when you have passed away?' He (the Prophet) replied, 'Allah has prohibited the earth from consuming the bodies of the Prophets.'"

From Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, he said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say, 'Let no one of you fast on Friday unless he fasts the day before or the day after.'"

From Muhammad bin Abbad bin Ja'far, he said: "I once asked Jabir bin Abdullah, 'Did the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, prohibit fasting on Friday?' He replied, 'Yes.' Muslim added in his version of the hadith, 'By the Lord of the Kaaba.'"

From Juwairiyah bint al-Harith, may Allah be pleased with her, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, met her on Friday while she was fasting. He asked her, "Did you fast yesterday?" She replied, "No." He then asked, "Do you intend to fast tomorrow?" She replied, "No." He said, "Then break your fast."

From Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, he said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say, 'Indeed, Friday is a day of Eid, so do not make it a day of fasting unless you fast the day before or the day after.'"

From Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, he said: "The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, 'Whoever takes a bath, then comes to the Friday prayer, prays as much as he can, remains silent until the Imam finishes the khutbah, and then prays with the Imam, will have his sins forgiven from that Friday until the next, and three extra days of reward.' (Narrated by Muslim)"

The people threw their clothes as charity, and he (the Prophet) gave the man two garments. The following Friday, the man came again while Allah's Messenger was delivering the sermon. Once again, the Prophet urged the people to give alms. Abu Sa'id al-Khudri said, 'The man threw one of his garments as charity.' Allah's Messenger then said, 'This man came last Friday in shabby clothes. I told the people to give charity, and they gave clothes. I instructed them to give him two garments.
