The Seven Doors of Hell and Their Inhabitants in Islam ~ Hi all readers! In this article, I will explain the doors of Hell and their inhabitants. As Muslims, we must know about this. The goal is to make us more vigilant while we live in this world.

Okay! Let’s get straight to it!

In Daqa'iqu al-Akhbar fi Dzikri al-Jannati wa an-Nar, it is explained:

Hell has seven doors. At each door, there are men and women. There is a hadith narrated from the Messenger of Allah (Prophet Muhammad) 'alaihi as-Salam, where he once asked Gabriel 'alaihi as-Salam, "Are the doors the same as our doors?" Gabriel then replied, "No! But the doors are open, and some of them are lower than others. The distance between one door and another is a journey of seven hundred years. Each door is seventy times hotter than the one before it."

The Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam then asked Gabriel again, "Who are the residents of these doors?" Gabriel replied, "Inside the first door are hypocrites, disbelievers who were involved in the events of al-Maidah, and the family of Pharaoh. The name of the first door is al-Hawiyah. Inside the second door are polytheists. The name of the second door is al-Jahim. Inside the third door are the ash-Shabi'un (those who worship animals). The name of the third door is Saqar. Inside the fourth door are Satan, those who followed him, and the Magi. The name of the fourth door is Ladhah. Inside the fifth door are the Jews (who defied). The name of the fifth door is Huthamah. Inside the sixth door are the Christians (who defied). The name of the sixth door is Sa'ir."

Then Gabriel was silent. The Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam then said, "O Gabriel, why didn't you tell me about the inhabitants of the seventh door?" Gabriel said, "O Muhammad, did you ask me about that?" He replied, "Certainly." Gabriel then said, "O Muhammad, those are the people from your Ummah who committed great sins and died before they repented." He then fell unconscious. When he regained consciousness, he said, "O Gabriel, how great is the disaster that has befallen me, and how great is my fear. Is there anyone from my Ummah who will enter Hell?" Gabriel answered, "Yes, those who have committed great sins from your Ummah will enter Hell."

Then the Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam wept, and Gabriel wept because of his weeping. The Prophet then asked, "O Gabriel, why are you crying? You are ar-Ruh al-Amin (the Trustworthy Spirit)." Gabriel replied, "I fear facing trials like those that Harut and Marut experienced. That is what makes me cry."

Allah the Exalted then said, "O Gabriel, O Muhammad! Indeed, I have kept both of you safe from Hell. But never feel secure from My torment."

Dear readers, that is a brief explanation of the doors of Hell and their inhabitants. May we never be among them. Amen!
