Are you searching for a description of the Sunnah of cutting nails on Thursday? If your answer is "Of course," congratulations! You are currently reading the best short post on this topic. Why? Because that is what I will discuss in this article. As Muslims, it's essential for us to understand this practice. That is why I composed this short post, so you must read it thoroughly!

Specifically, there are three essential points regarding the Sunnah of cutting nails on Thursday that I will discuss in this article. The three important points I will cover are as follows:

Benefits of Cutting Nails in Islam

The first essential point about the Sunnah of cutting nails on Thursday that I will discuss is the benefits of cutting nails in Islam. I want you to grasp these benefits initially so that you understand the importance of this practice.

Cutting nails is something that most people do regularly. While some individuals choose to let their nails grow for various reasons, it is clear that cutting nails is better. In other words, cutting nails is preferable to letting them grow long.

In Islam, there are several benefits to cutting nails. Of course, I'm not going to discuss everything right now. In this article, I will only explain two main benefits of cutting nails in Islam.

The two main benefits of cutting nails in Islam are as follows:

  • Cutting nails makes it easier for Muslims to maintain cleanliness

Generally, there's dirt on long nails, which can diminish their appearance. Many people feel uncomfortable if there's dirt on their nails. Cutting nails is a simple way to eliminate this dirt.

In Islam, there are numerous commands to maintain cleanliness, and I believe you are already aware of that. So, I won't go into further detail about that in this article.

  • Cutting nails helps Muslims protect their chastity from minor impurities

Hands are part of the body that frequently come into contact with various objects. We often use our hands for many activities, such as eating, drinking, touching items around us, and cleaning ourselves after using the restroom.

The problem arises if there are remnants of stool that stick to the nails after we clean ourselves. In Islam, feces are considered impure. It can be challenging to remove any leftover feces if our nails are long. Therefore, cutting your nails will make it easier to clean any remaining impurities.

That's a brief description of the benefits of cutting nails in Islam. As Muslims, we must understand this.

Hadith Regarding Cutting Nails

The second essential point regarding the Sunnah of cutting nails on Thursday that I will discuss is the hadiths related to cutting nails. I want you to understand this because it's one of the essential inquiries about cutting nails in Islam that must be well comprehended.

If we read various Islamic literature about cutting nails, we'll find many hadiths on this topic. Of course, I'm not going to discuss everything right now. In this short post, I will only cover a few hadiths.

Some of the hadiths regarding cutting nails are as follows:

From Aisha (radliyallahu anha), she said, "The Messenger of Allah (Prophet Muhammad) (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said, 'When you cut your nails, begin by cutting the nails of your little finger, middle finger, thumb, ring finger, and index finger because it can bring you abundance.'"

From Abu Hurairah (radliyallahu anhu), the Prophet (Muhammad) (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said, "There are five aspects of fitrah: circumcision, removing pubic hair, cutting the mustache, cutting the nails, and tweezing the armpit hair."

From Ibn Umar (radliyallahu anhuma), the Messenger of Allah (Prophet Muhammad) (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said, "Among the aspects of fitrah are shaving the pubic hair, cutting nails, and trimming the mustache."

From Aisha (radliyallahu anha), she said, "The Messenger of Allah (Prophet Muhammad) (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said, 'There are ten aspects of fitrah: cutting the mustache, preserving the beard, using the siwak, rinsing the nose with water, cutting nails, washing the knuckles, tweezing the armpit hair, shaving the pubic hair, and cleaning oneself with water.'"

That is a brief description of the hadith regarding cutting nails. As Muslims, we must understand this.

The Sunnah of Cutting Nails on Thursday

The third essential point regarding the Sunnah of cutting nails on Thursday that I will discuss is a specific description. Therefore, I truly hope that you read the description below carefully.

Before I provide you with an answer to that inquiry, I will quote the words of Imam Sulaiman al-Jamal in his book "Hasyiyatul Jamal" regarding this matter. Please consider the description below:

It is recommended to wash the fingertips after cutting the nails because some say that scraping them before washing can cause leprosy. The best days for cutting nails are Friday, Thursday, or Monday.

Dear readers, if we understand the words of Imam Sulaiman al-Jamal above, we can conclude that cutting nails on Thursday is a Sunnah. What is meant by Sunnah here is that it is a recommendation. However, an important point to understand is that the suggestion or Sunnah to cut your nails on Thursday comes from the opinions of Islamic scholars regarding this issue. I have not found a hadith that specifically states that cutting nails on Thursday is Sunnah.

That’s a brief description of the Sunnah of cutting nails on Thursday. As Muslims, we must understand this.

Dear readers, that concludes our brief overview of the Sunnah of cutting nails on Thursday and some essential aspects of it. Do you understand? If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask!

I believe that is sufficient for this short post. May it be beneficial. Ameen.

See you once again in the next short post!
